Guide to your Winemaking Journey
1. Time Commitment
You’ll need around 4–6 weeks for the entire winemaking process. On-premise? Just two short visits. At home? Plan for about 4 hours spread across multiple days.
2. Wine Style
Are you into dry reds, sweet whites, or something sparkling? Think about your preferences, the season, and how soon you want to drink it (some styles age better than others).
3. Equipment (for Home Brewing)
You’ll need basic items like a fermenting bucket, a carboy, a siphon, and sanitizer. If you’re missing something, we have it in stock and ready to go.
4. Bottles & Corks
Have at least 30 clean bottles on hand for a standard batch. You can reuse your own or purchase new ones in-store. Don’t forget corks or caps!
5. Storage Space
Ensure you have a cool, dark place to store your wine as it ages. Ideal temperatures are between 12–18°C (54–64°F).
6. Occasion or Purpose
Are you making wine for a wedding, holiday season, or just to fill your cellar? Knowing the “why” helps pick the perfect wine kit and volume.
7. Labels & Presentation
Want to make your bottles stand out? We offer custom labels and shrink caps to give your wine a professional finish—perfect for gifts or events.

Wine Pairing Recommendations
Pair bold wines like Cabernet Sauvignon with hearty dishes like steak. Light wines like Pinot Grigio go best with lighter fare like salads or seafood.
Off-dry or sweet wines like Riesling pair wonderfully with spicy foods such as Thai or Indian cuisine.
High-acid wines like Sauvignon Blanc complement tangy dishes—think goat cheese, tomatoes, or vinaigrettes.
Your wine should be sweeter than your dessert. Try a rich Port or Icewine with chocolate or fruit-based sweets.
FAQs
The winemaking process typically takes between 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the wine kit you choose.
Absolutely! Winexpert sources high-quality juices and concentrates from around the world and follows the same processes as commercial wineries, just on a smaller scale. Allowing your wine to age in the bottle enhances its flavour—generally, 4-week wines are best consumed within a year, while 8-week wines can be enjoyed up to two years after bottling.
Not at all. Making your own wine is cost-effective, with prices as low as $5 per bottle. By crafting the wine yourself, you save on the high taxes associated with commercial alcoholic beverages.
First, decide whether you'll make the wine at home or on-site with us. The process generally involves four basic steps: Primary Fermentation, Secondary Fermentation, Stabilizing and Clearing, and Bottling. Each kit comes with detailed instructions, and we're here to assist you every step of the way.
The alcohol content varies by style. Most wines range from 11% to 14.5% alcohol by volume. Specialty dessert wines can reach up to 17%, while lighter options like Island Mist wines are around 6%.
We offer both dry and off-dry wines. We can help you choose a wine that matches your preferred sweetness level.
It depends on the wine. Higher-end kits and red wines benefit from longer aging—typically 6 to 8 months. Whites and lighter wines can be enjoyed sooner, often after 3 to 6 months. If you're eager to taste your creation, 4-week kits are designed for earlier consumption.
The flavour of wine improves over time. We recommend aging 6 and 8-week red wines for at least 6 to 8 months, and whites for at least 3 to 6 months. However, if you're looking for a wine that's ready to drink sooner, our 4-week varieties are a great choice.
Properly stored, 4-week wine kits will last 6 to 12 months, while 6 and 8-week wines can age gracefully for two to three years. For optimal longevity, store your wine in a cool, dark place at a consistent temperature between 12°C and 15°C (55°F to 60°F).
Storing wine in the refrigerator long-term is not recommended, as it's too cool, too dry, and subject to vibrations. These conditions can negatively affect the wine's quality and promote the formation of potassium bitartrate crystals (wine diamonds). It's best to refrigerate wine just prior to serving.
Wine doesn't naturally turn into vinegar; vinegar-making is a separate process. If your wine smells like vinegar, it may have been contaminated with acetic acid bacteria during the winemaking process. Additionally, wine can oxidize over time, leading to diminished flavour and freshness.
